Time Travel Tuesday: Transparent Aluminum

I occasionally get sucked into the world of TV Tropes. Don’t do it, people. You’ll be there for hours.

I’m glad I did it tonight, though. Did you know that there is actually a formula for Transparent Aluminum? I had no idea. Here’s the quote from TV Tropes:

There are no less than three formulas for Transparent Aluminum after Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

One of which, corundum, with the formula of Al2O3, is better known as rubies and sapphires. Aluminum Oxynitride may be a better fit, though, being entirely synthetic.

I absolutely love rubies and sapphires. And they’re pretty much aluminum foil mixed with oxygen. Who knew? I think I’ll ball up some aluminum foil and stick it in a ring setting. πŸ˜‰

I found this via the insanely funny DarthsandDroids, by the way. How I missed them when this was first run, I have no idea. I started reading through it last night and have managed to get exactly 195 words written, between it and Twitter.

I think this qualifies for Time Travel Tuesday. It mentions “the one with the whales.” πŸ™‚
